showing on our computers as 1st January 2009!!!!!) the day has so far not
turned out as expected. Although winds have been light we have had 8 to 12
knots of wind speed from the ESE and have been able to coax every ounce of
boat speed from what wind we have. In the five hours from 12 noon we have
averaged 7kts and covered 35 NM. WE have also been talking to other boats
around us on the VHF and a German boat has a professional meteorologist on
board who predicts that we will stay behind the very low wind area and as we
move WSW this area will move WNW away from us. Fingers Crossed!!!!!
We are currently sailing under main and cruising chute on a direct Rhumb
line to St Lucia and if we can keep to this 7 knot average boat speed we
have another 9 or 10 days to run. We have now covered 1,485 miles over the
ground and have another 1,590 to go.
Having crossed 30 degrees west and two time zones from GMT we have also set
back our watch patterns by 2 hours so will now be 2 hours behind the UK (I'm
not sure how far in front of East coast Canada we are.
We will update our position again in the morning.
