After some great days in the Mt Cook region we headed south to Queenstown to do some routes on the Remarkables range of mountains.

En route we got a chance to tramp up Lindis peak high above the Lindis valley, a great walk and although only a short distance from Mt Cook

a complete contrast to the jagged peaks of the Southern Alps.

Tha land is a never ending vista of dry, rolling hills supporting the Sheep and farmers that South Island is famous for. As we headed up we were

privelaged to watch  a local farmer workinh his sheep into the higher pastures with the help of his dogs and his young son learning the trade

during the easter holidays

This region can only support sheep and some beef cattle lower down and is snow covered for months in winter

The rock formations are striking, the remants of harder rock pushed up from deep within the earth’s core.
