Biggles and the Red Baron flies again.

After another beautiful days climbing in the Remarkables above Queenstown, Terje and I set off early to head over the Cadrona Pass to Wanaka.

With the early morning mist still hanging over the river beds and the lake we took a simultaneous flight in a pair of 1940’s Tiger Moths.

The business is owned and run by Peter a very experienced pilot who took terje aloft while I flew with Ivan, the New Zealand aerobatic champion

who usually flies a Pitt monoplane.

With no other flights yet aloft the pilots gave us a great exhibition of close formation flying as we flew around the edge of the lake and the nearby

Mountains, edging close in to the hillsides and on the return leg looping the loop and going into steep spirals, twists and turns. On the run in to the

airfield the two pilots dived low only feet above the river in a mock dogfight. Having been brought up on Biggles and the exploits of the real WW1

pilots this gave me a feel of what it must have been like for the original heroes of the air. Memorable!
