After the previous days frustrations the last 24 hours have provided us with
some champagne sailing.
In winds of around 8 to 16 kts we have been broad reaching (sailing with the
wind at 45 degrees to our stern) at speeds between 7 and 10 knots and have
covered 191 miles towards our destination. We now have less than 680 miles
to go.
WE have also gone from charging though the pitch black nights unable to see
ahead of the bow to clear moonlight starry nights with almost daytime
visibility.
We continue to see no other boats, nor do we pick any up on the radar
although we did hear a couple of boats on the VHF yesterday although they
were some distance to the South East of our position.
We are all beginning to ponder our arrival with mixed feelings. On the one
hand we desperately want to see the girls again after so long but on the
other hand we do not want the adventure to end.
WE will just have to get them onboard and sail off into the sunset again.

I have resigned myself to washing up! Steve is a much better cook and
continues to give me advice but I can't put it into practice. It would take
twice as long and I'm still not sure it would turn out the way intended. So
Steve continues to take charge with the meals and we are living like Kings.
I'm sure we have spaghetti and baked beans left which I could wow them with
my culinary expertise and win some credibility back latter!
The miles are falling. We had reached the 1000 miles stage and now I can't
help but watch them fall away, on the other hand it will all be over too
soon. Mixed feelings because when my dream comes to an end what next?
Last night we had an almost full moon and it just made our visibility so
much easier. I know all we have is sea around us but you could move around
the outside of the boat with ease. The shooting stars are just amazing with
no light pollution.
My fishing isn't improving, yesterday I hooked a monster but alas it got
away. Fishermans tales I know but honest it really was!
We caught sight of a pod of whales yesterday although we couldn't get close
enough there must have been around six blowing air. We have a bird which
comes to feed on the dead flying fish we find on the deck each morning which
keeps us all entertained. Little things keep you amused when you have
nothing to worry about not even other boats, as Steve mentioned above "we
are all alone".
