Since leaving Bali we have come almost 450nm north, the last leg 200nm in
perfect conditions, with flat seas and light SE winds allowing us to beam
reach at over 8 knots flying the cruising chute in 10 knots of apparent
wind. We made such good time that we were able to drop the anchor in the
early hours of the morning just inside the mouth of the very shallow river
estuary.
After a few hours sleep we completed the journey 10nm upriver to the port of
Kumai from where we will travel further upriver for a few days by local boat
and into the jungle to see the wildlife, including a visit to the Leakey
Orang-utan sanctuary.
Internet access has been poor since leaving Bali so we will post some pics
on the blog asap.
