We arrived here on San Cristobel at 20.00UT 4 days and 21 hours after
weighing anchor in the Las Perlas Islands. The forecasted light winds did
not materialise and we continued to make great progress at over 8 knots
until well in the lee of the island when the wind dropped completely and
we motored the last 5 miles into Puerto Baquierez, seeing curious seals,
sharks and the blue footed Booby's that are indigenous to these islands.
The first couple of hours were taken up meeting our agents representative,
dealing with the port authorities and immigration. After that it was a
mewal ashore, taking photos of the seals and their pups who lie on the
beach, on park benches, on the steps from the dock, in the shrubbery, on
the back of boats, in peoples dinghy's....in short just about anywhere
they want to go to sleep.....photos later.
After that it was back to the boat and 11 hours sleep.
We have had a memorable passage, picked a good route through the ITCZ and
a direct track in to the islands that saved at least a day or more. We now
have a couple of weeks or more to explore the islands and see some amazing
wildlife.
