Since mid-March, we have been sailing around the Grenadines and down to Grenada—-so relaxing sailing and anchoring and no long passages.
Mid-March found us at anchor in Carriacou. From there we sailed up to Petit St Vincent and then over to Union Island—then out to Tobago Keys for a couple of nights—snorkelling with turtles again!
Then up to Canouan for a few days. It’s a good anchorage, but not busy. Canouan is a strange mix of poor, local village and some top end tourism supported by a decent airport. There seems to be a lot of investment going in right now—-a top class marina complex being built and a rumour that Soho House are taking over the only middle range hotel on the island. Just hope some of this benefits the locals and not just the politicians trousering the money!
We then cruised back down to Grenada over a week, via Chatham Bay and Clifton on Union Island and Carriacou. In Grenada we visited Whisper Cove and the Phare Bleu marina—-a favourite in 2008/9– and at the end of March we berthed in Secret Harbour marina for a while, as we both travelled to London for Ger’s monthly consultation. Also a visit to Scotland—Aviemore and Edinburgh.
Back on board mid-April and sailed back up north to Bequia, via nights in Tyrell Bay and Sandy Island on Carriacou. Spent about a week in Bequia, visiting different parts of the island and doing a fair amount of walking.
Then a few days in Mustique —-Basil’s bar, Cotton House for lunch, Also Firefly. Not much changed since 2008!
Back to Canouan for a few days, Salt Whistle Bay on Mayreau for a few more—-then Clifton, PSV and Carriacou before sailing down to Grenada on 12 May for a week in the marina in St George’s, while Ger spends a few days in London.
Ger due back on the 18th, we haul Simanderal at Clarke’s Court on the 23rd—and fly back to Europe on the 29th—-and so ends our 2018/9 cruise which started in Malta some 14 months ago! And took us through much of the Western Med, through Morocco and Lanzarote, cruising the Cape Verde Islands, crossing the Atlantic and 5 months cruising the Caribbean between Martinique and Grenada.
Time to get back to Europe—-a lot of admin to catch up on!!
