On the sea again

Simanderal has been doing very little over the last 3 months--moored up in Sydney while we trvelled back to Europe for 3 weeks and New Zealand for 4 weeks--and of course enjoyed ourselves in Sydney too, in our floating accomodation.
Indeed we had been away from the briny for so long that it was quite a struggle getting up the energy to start moving again. But 3 days of solid rain last week reminded us that winter here is coming--and it's time to move north--towards the tropics--before winter sets in. Just like migrating birds.
So after some serious provisioning and with a full freezer, on Sunday we cast off the lines and headed out through the Heads and into that great ocean once more--the swell under the boat seemed immense and the movement uncomfortable--though in reality I think we just need to get our sea legs back again.
But first day out has to be a short shake-downer. For us it was a 25 mile sail up to Pittwater, just north of Sydney--a lovely area of forested sounds etc. And we stayed there for a couple of days--one of which was to fix the minor problems the shake down exposed.
And today--Wednesday--we had a longer day sail--55 miles up to Newcastle. An early morning--sailing by 0700--and we arrived at the new marina in Newcastle at 1700--nicely moored up just before a thunderstorm and the heavens opening!! A wet end to a good sunny day!
Enough for now--Ger's cooking lamb chops for dinner and they're nearly done!
