We spent an interesting day exploring St Pierre on
15 April, before sailing south to spend a nighr in Grande Anse D'Arlet on the
south-west of Martinique--a new anchorage for us--a pleasant sheltered bay with
a nice beach and lots of restaurants along the shore--full of French and
local yachts and clearly a favourite spot for locals. We arrived there
before noon--in time for an enjoyable lunch ashore followed by a
swim.
Next day--17th--it was off again early for the sail
to St Lucia--around 25 miles to Rodney bay marina, where we had first landed
after our transatlantic last year. It was a fast, lively sail with plenty of
spray over the deck! The new docks in the marina are impressive, though little
has been done to the buildings--which were very familiar.
And so we stayed in the marina for a week--washing
clothes, spending time on Reduit Beach, eating well. Vision cleaned the hull and
stainless steel work--nice job--and we generally got the boat ship-shape and
victualled and even the batteries got a good recharge--this was our first marina
since we left the Virgin Islands.
We left Rodney Bay today--the 25th --for a short
sail down to Marigot Bay, where we now sit on a mooring enjoying the peace.
We'll have a couple more days on St Lucia before heading for
Bequia.
