We crossed from Lanzarote to Gran Canaria on Saturday night/Sunday morning
last weekend. We left Lanzarote about 1600 and started with a lovely sail
in a fresh wind and broad reach--but as the night progressed the wind was
dropping and backing almost dead astern. So eventually we had to resort to
the engine to make reasonable progress, arriving in Las Palmas about 0830
Sunday 11th. A half hour wait for the marina office to open and we were on
our berth by 1000.
Since when it has been all go, with many things to attend
to--provisioning, communications systems--both SSB and satphone--ARC
seminars and of course a major social programme with 250 boats gathering.
I'll be glad when the work is over and we can start sailing!
