We've been in Tonga now for the last 9 days--a good break from passagemaking. The Vava'u group if islands in northern Tonga--where we are--is a beautiful cruising area. Calm waters in the ptotection of the island group, decent winds, green islands that rise out of the sea, some lovely beaches and very clear water.
We've also spent some time ashore--yesterday we went by bus to the botanical gardens--a guided tour and buffet lunch--an interesting day. To church--the singing is magnificent--last Sunday to the Catholic church, today we'll go to the Wesleyan--the biggest in Tonga. And to the many good bars and restaurants here with cruisers from other boats--lots of socialising and stories--and very reasonable prices on what is essentially a poor group of islands--never colonised so has never had the benefit of money from a colonising power --unlike other islands which receive financing from France/New Zealand etc.
So it has been a good time--but tomorrow we will leave on a 3 or 4 day passage to Fiji.
All well.
