17:44.223S 146:9.399E Stephens Island (Southern Bradstroke Islands, Queensland, Australia) 3.-4. November 2017 What a beautiful spot! Nice sandy beach, too. The neighboring islands only seem to have coral gravel instead of sand. But this is lovely. Beautiful place for exercises in the morning ( level beach and shade). A jungle reef With the very low tide in the afternoon we went to explore the island, and actually manage to walk all the way around it! A really cool place. Little hike to the top gave us a beautiful view of the sister island. This Island is a bird haven. They're all kind of birds flying and nesting everywhere! There are several different kind of terns, white little doves, and some other kinds of sea birds. Even saw a big bird of prey. A sports fisherman we me on the beach almost ran into a Dugong. Shame! I still haven’t seen any. They are quite squiddish, they say. Maybe one day….. Michael tried a shortcut and almost came to a dead end. My heart skipped more than a beat when a rocky ledge he was holding onto gave way and he slipped a little bit. Still true to this motto: never a dull moment... Fortunately, we returned home safely and in one piece, and later had a beautiful bonfire on the beach. But nothing is perfect. We both got eaten up by sandflies or similar and had to flee the beach. Anyway, was lovely while it lasted. |
