22.9. 16:20 Under way to New Caledonia - 190nm sailed, 509nm to go!

The first 24hours went pretty well. Sailing on a beam reach to close reach with 17-25 apparent wind and moderate a bit bumpy seas.
With the main up with 1 reef and genoa we're doing 8-9.5 knots - moving along well!
However, it always takes a while to get into the motion and we both didn't sleep much the first day (or night). But it does seem a litlte less bumpy now so we can hopefully do the fish we caught on the BBQ outside!
The first lure was taken by something really big - maybe a sailfish. I just caught a huge fin out of the corner of my eye.
Shortly after we caught a nice rainbow mackerel. Always feel so sorry for the fish. But if our lure was real he would have just gulped down a juciy squid.
I'm really considering putting up a surveillance camera on our handlines. Cause 10min after my last check, one line was entirely gone!
The lure, the line, the bungee - never seen that before. There are some big fish in this ocean...
Die ersten 24 Stunden verliefen prima. Wir segeln mittelmaessig hoch am Wind, teils Halbwind, bei 17-25 Knoten gefuehltem Wind und machen mit 8-9.5 Knoten ueber Grund gute Fahrt.
An die Schaukelei muessen wir uns jedes Mal allerdings wieder gewoehnen und die meiste Zeit verbringen wir liegend/halb doesend oder hoeren Hoerbuecher. Aber immerhin kann man, wenn auch unter etwas erschwaerten Bedingungen Kochen und Abwaschen - ich kenne so einige die Vorkochen.
Habe gerade Verkehr auf dem Radio gehoert. 3 Boote segeln zwar nicht in Sichtweite aber eben in VHF Hoernaehe Richtung Tanna in Vanuatu. Und Catamaran Mathilda mit Andreas (v.d. Regatta) etwas weiter suedlich als wir auch Richtung Noumea, Neukaledonien.
Bald wird's Dunkel und ich ruf gleich noch mal den naechsten Wetterbericht ab. Auf eine angenehme Nachttour!
