We did 884 miles to get here, which took 7 days (and nights.....) The nights were not too long though with it being that time of year with long day light hours.
We did some sailing, but it was mainly motoring. We were encouraged to see several pilot whales and many dolphins, especially close to Gibraltar. We have not seen many in all our time in the Med which is very depressing; we love having dolphins swimming under the bow.
We also had an interesting encounter with a small boat with 10 male immigrants from Algeria on their way to Spain. They came up to us to ask for water; we gave them about 8 water bottles. They also asked which direction to go to Spain as their GPS was not working. To our relief they were soon on their way again; they were friendly and grateful.
Duncan reported the incident by sat phone to Falmouth Coast Guard, who passed it on to the local authorities who then contacted us for more details by VHF radio. At least we felt people were aware of them in case they ran our of fuel.
We are now ties up in Alcaidesa Marina in La Linea with a good view of the Rock of Gibraltar. We re-provisioned and have be doing some repairs (the genoa needs to come down when the wind is easier) and rest. We tried to meet up with some friends, but Roger is away and Momy from Gibraltar unfortunately died late last year. We will however meet Micheal and Jeanette tomorrow for lunch. We have hired a car for a few days to see some sights in Andalucia. At the moment the wind and tides look favorable to leave here on Saturday for Lagos in Portugal.
