Pangkor Marina and Ipoh
It has been nearly a month since I last did something
for the blog. Time just flies by. We are making good progress on the
maintenance. After a lot of hard work under the floor boards in the galley
Duncan has now finished the de-rusting and painting and has reconnected all the
pipes. He has also improved the water system with two new manifolds for water in
and out of the boat. So after many weeks we now have water in the taps again and
even hot water. The work on the transmission is not going too well, the new
gearbox is now finally connected, but when Duncan put the new seal on the
propeller to keep the water out he found it was too big! £400 wasted. So we had
to order a new one like we had before and know will fit; that has to come from
UK. So it will be another few weeks before we go in the water. But we are not
sitting still; I have serviced the winches, made a canvas bag for the bbq, put
the bimini and "conservatory" back up to keep out the rain. We have a few
projects on the go like repairing the teak on the decks, repairing the shower
(again), fixing the hydrophane, cleaning the bilge etc. We still have to fit the
new radar and polish the hull (second round) and of course the
anti-fouling.
But life is not bad, the palm trees and views generally
are nice. We keep meeting new people, go out for nice meals in the evenings with
the car we have and of course we have an air conditioner so we get a good rest
at night. We are not in a hurry to go anywhere (yet).
We had a couple of days break and went to Ipoh to renew
our visas, that was painful and took over three hours. Ipoh is a lovely town
with excellent food and many historical buildings. We are planning a few days on
Pangkor Island once we are in the water.
