There is not that much to do in Kauehi, especially when it is windy and wet. So the weather is not always nice in paradise either. We ended up doing various jobs on the boat, like repairing the dinghy cover, repainting rust patches on the upper deck. Duncan even got the guitar out again and has been practicing every day for a few days now, making some progress. We have been here for four days, the first two were sunny. On day two we visited another pearl farm. It was very interesting to see how different this one was from the one on Raroia. This one also had Chinese girls working as grafters, but the owner was a local.I ended up as interpreter for an American couple that came with us.
Ewan is due to arrive tomorrow, so I have been baking butter cakes amongst other things. We had two giant manta rays doing summersaults in the water late this afternoon, showing their white bellies. We have several sucker fish (Remoras) under the boat. I hope they do a good job cleaning the hull.
We will have a couple of days here with Ewan and his crew. They might want to visit the pearl farm too. Then we will move to Fakarava, a bigger atoll with more facilities for tourists. (And another pearl farm to visit. Sofar we have not actually seen any pearls yet let alone bought any).
