We are in Suteri Marina, Kota Kinabalu; we arrived here on August 2nd... yes I know it has been ages since I last updated the blog. Life has been pretty busy, with visitors aboard it is all go.
After Pulau Tiga we tried to find a place to anchor where we could show Mart and Rutger blue water and do some snorkeling. But the water was very disturbed everywhere and not good to anchor, so we ended up in the marina earlier than planned. It is not a bad place to be though, very luxurious. We hired a car and went to Kota Belut and Mount Kinabalu, where we did not go up the mountain, but did a 6 km walk in the jungle. Then visited a war memorial on the way back.
On Monday 6 August we flew to Gunong Mulu via Miri. This is just the most amazing National Park we have ever seen. The mountains are riddled with caves; one more spectacular than the other. We visited the four show caves and Duncan and Rutger did Racer Cave for more advanced caving. We went by longboats along the river; the water level was very low so the boat boys had to walk the boat sometimes. Mart and I visited a longhouse. We spent three nights at the Royal Mulu Resort.
The last day of Mart and Rutger's stay we played 9 holes on the beautiful golf course here.
Now that the last of our visitors have gone we set to cleaning the boat inside and out. We have never seen Sea Topaz so dirty from the brown rivers and the oil spill in Labuan.
A few more days here of admin and then we'll move north again.
