Another anchorage on a lee-shore, not ideal, but there is not much choice. The water is generally very deep and to find a good depth to anchor in is not easy. We have been here in Manado for three days and two nights. The first few days and night were nice and quiet, but when we got back from our day trip yesterday the wind and the rain came. Then went and came back again even stronger. It lasted a long time so we did not get much sleep. The anchor slipped about 9 m, but then held again and we were safe.
When we arrived we were met by a young man called Lucky, who looked after us very well and helped us with officials, shopping, laundry, water and diesel and getting rid of our rubbish. He also came with us as a guide on our day trip in a hired car. So we have seen a bit of the town and the surroundings and are provisioned again.
We visited Tohomo and the market there. This was gruesome as they butchered and sold meat of dogs, rats and bats as well as pigs. Not nice. But this is what the Minahasa people have been doing for many years. We also visited some interesting old Minahasa graves. The Minahasa are the local tribe.
Tomorrow we'll move on again further up the coast to try and find a relaxing anchorage.
