Together with Bob and Margaret of Highland Duck we went
for a few days by taxi to Luxor. It took seven hours in an uncomfortable car to
get to our hotel. Needless to say we did not have much energy to do anything
that day, so a quick meal and to bed. The next day we met up with our guide and
went to the East Bank first, where we visited Karnak Temple and Luxor Temple. We
took the ferry back to the West Bank where we were staying. We took a walk along
the bank before going back to the hotel. We were invited by a local man to see
his house and meet his family. We had a cup of tea with them. We promised to
come back the next day for some small eats.
On day two we met Walid, our guide at the Valley of the
Kings. We visited four out of the 65 tombs. Fascinating; they were each so very
different. Unfortunately we were not allowed to take pictures. From there we
visited two more lesser temples, which turned out to be just as interesting. By
then we were templed out and went back to the hotel.
Next day we checked out of the hotel and met Walid at
the Luxor museum. He was a great guide who was very knowledgeable and explained
thing very well. After a cup of coffee we were on the road again with Menhir,
our driver, who had stayed with us throughout the visit. The return trip was
much shorter and easier as we managed to use a shorter road, which we were
prevented to use on the way up by the police.
A very interesting few days..
