We have been in Taiohae Bay on Nuku Hiva for a few days now. It is very hot and humid, so any breeze we get is welcome. We motored from Ua Pou (26nm) and managed to catch two tuna in the pouring rain. We explored the village/town and even had a pizza in a restaurant. Yesterday we got up at 5 o'clock to go the the vegetable market, by six o'clock everything has gone. We hired a 4 wheel drive and went all the way around the island. We visited ancient sacred sites where they used to sacrifices humans. They kept their victims in pits before they were sacrificed or cut up and dried on the platforms. Gruesome, but then they were cannibals in those days. The scenery was spectacular. We found a nice place for lunch in a bay, so we had a great day. We got stopped by the Gendarmerie when we were nearly back and Duncan was breathalysed for the first time in his life. Just as well he did not have that cold beer at lunchtime.Today is admin and relax, tomorrow we will collect our gas bottles, get some bread and meat and move on to the Tuamotos via one more bay on Nuku Hiva where we want to visit a waterfall and fill up with water. The trip to the Tuamotos is about 475 miles, we hope to get some wind by Wednesday. It should take about three days to get there.
