During our last day in Uligam "The World", a well-known cruise ship, came into the bay. The locals entertained them with dance and music.
We left early in the 19th Feb (our 40th wedding anniversary) and motored to Utheem, the most historical island in the Maldives. We were invited by the local to come into their new harbour, where we tied up on the quay. We visited the old palace and mosque; very interesting. We bought a few things in the local shop where we spoke to a politician. People here speak very good English and are well informed and interesting to talk to. The villages we have seen so far are very well looked after by the government with schools, clinics, harbours, big generators etc all in very good condition.
After leaving Utheem we stopped the engine half way and drifted to have our lunch. We then carried on to Hideaway resort on Dhonakulhi Island. We were offered a mooring buoy. We were made extremely welcome by people with lovely smiley faces. We took a walk around the island and had a swim. In the evening we came ashore to enjoy a delicious buffet dinner in one of the beautiful restaurants. We met some Nepali cooks, who were very surprised to meet someone who speaks their language.
It was and interesting and wonderful experience to celebrate our anniversary this way.
