It has been a busy time being a tourist. Whilst we were in Nieafu we hired a taxi to take us around the island, there was not that much to see, but it was still interesting to see how people live here. It is so different from French Polynesia, where the French government provides a lot of aid, here where they do not get that much aid. We went to a Tongan feast on Saturday evening with lots of local food, no plates or tools, just banana leaves, etc, it was delicious.
We left on Tuesday to go out to some of the fabulous anchorages. The first one was Port Morello (anchorage nr 7), a small bay with blue water and white beach. We visited a big cave by dinghy and did some snorkeling as well as beach combing. We have collected many shells in all shapes and sizes. We also had a bbq on the beach with the crew of some other boats. After two days we left for Tapana, had a really good sail (we have not done any tacking like that for quite a while). Another stunning place where we met up with friends. We had a great meal and entertainment at La Paella restaurant. We are now anchored off Kenutu island with just one other boat. Great snorkeling in very clear blue water, shelling on the beaches and another cave. We had a bbq on the beach with the crew of Crazy Diamond and enjoyed fish kebabs made with the marlin steaks we were given by the skipper of Celandine.
We will visit another couple of anchorages on our way back to Nieafu.
