After a visit from two gentlemen from one of the
local villages, we moved about 3 miles to another idyllic anchorage off Bundu
Island. Suhardu and his friend came to see us to invite us to their village. We
had met Suhardu a few days ago in Banggai Town. He had spotted us, so here we
were with more new friends.
Our new anchorage is well sheltered with lots of
reefs to explore snorkeling. We spent two days here, snorkeling and wandering on
the beaches. The coral was oke in patches, but a lot of it was damaged by
explosives. Their was not much in the way of fish. The beach was more rewarding
in that we found more than a dozen tiger cowries as well as spider conch and a
massive helmet conch. Near one of the houses on the beach we found a whole pile
of Tiger Cowries, very smelly, obviously live ones to have them in better
condition.
Last night we had a strange experience with what we
think was a big barracuda bumping into the boat and then going around the boat
in circles jumping out of the water. We followed it with a big torch
light.
This afternoon we had about ten big dolphins around
the back of the boat and later on a sea snake under the bathing platform. We are
just waiting to see what will happen next.
