Altogether we spent two weeks in Port Ghalib Marina, it was a lovely place to be. After our visit to Luxor we used our time in the marina to do repairs on the teak decks; yes there were places where the salt water had got in seriously. The very dry weather was ideal to really wash the boat and decks thoroughly to get rid of all the salt and there was plenty of that. Duncan also attacked the few small rust patches that always turn up.
But on Monday there was a weather window, so with Highland Duck we left early. At first we were still into wind and waves, but it gradually got better and we even had flat seas at night. We made good progress. At around 10 in the morning, when we were back into waves and wind close to the traffic separation channel, when Bob radioed that his auto pilot had gone again. We had no choice but to turn back again as hand steering the rest of the way was not an option. We decided to stay with them and go to Abu Tig marina. However when we radioed the marina when we got close, they said there was no room for either of us. So we carried on going back south to try our luck with Hurdhaga marina. They were much more helpful. So here we are now, safe and well, and an engineer on the case. Fingers crossed! Not a bad place to be. We missed the weather window however and it looks like we will be here until about Monday, when there appears to be another one coming up. We'll get there eventually...
