We are anchored off the capital of the Wakatobi
Islands. We are very well looked after by the local authorities (they even give
us 100 l of free diesel so that we can move around the islands). Because it is
Ramadan the town is very quiet during the day but comes alive after dark. We
have had two evenings of eating adventures in various small restaurants and
market stalls. There was some dancing entertainment last night; we are getting
used to the idea that we are expected to join in after the first performance.
More is organised for this evening.
Hoga Island offered probably the best snorkeling we
have had. It was also fun to visit the stilted village (it would have been even
better to do it at high tide). We had an early morning sail to Wangi Wangi to
get to the anchorage at high tide. A local boat helped us into the lagoon where
we are all anchored now. We did a tour to visit two villages yesterday, which
was very interesting. We visited a seaweed farm, where they grow and dry seaweed
for food in Japan and medicines and cosmetics.
We'll be here for a few more days and them move
south to Flores.
