After four days of gentle sailing and motoring we arrived at the first of the Tuamotos Islands that we intend to visit. The Marquesas Islands were very mountainous the Tuamotus on the other hand are almost all atolls, with the highest thing being a palm  tree. The atoll usually encircles a lagoon and if you can get into it then there is a lovely idyllic aquamarine water, white sand, palm tree setting. The passes into some of the atolls are pretty scary. When we arrived at this one we could see the standing waves, we took a closer look, which made me quite nervous, but we decided to wait for slack water and then go in. When we did go we still had 5 knots against us. If we had waited for another hour or so we would have seen that it does go calm briefly. Anyway we are in and anchored off our own little island with white sand, blue water and palm trees. We went snorkeling this morning which was very nice. We were more successful this time with the underwater camera. We will stay here for a few days as the forecast is for stronger winds. Duncan is planning to do some windsurfing.
