After Broken Hill we spent one night in Menindee.
This was a bit disappointing as we could not get out to the historic sites as
the dirt roads were too wet. We did see the lakes and how people used the water
for irrigation and grow fruit and vegetables in the outback. We stayed in old
railway carriages that were used as accommodation and training in the
hospitality industry for the local high school students. We were the first (and
only) guests.
From there we drove via Hay to Canberra. Here we
met up with Tej and Marie Lewis again, who had come to town to be our guides. We
visited the Australian War Memorial; a very impressive monument to those who
died during the many wars Australia was involved in. We also visited the new and
old Parliament buildings and learned about the Australia
government.
We are now back in Sydney. We have had a lot of
rain in the last few days, so camping over the weekend with Ewan and Jemima was
cancelled. We are catching up on admin.
