Farewell to the Marquesas Islands

The Marquesas were amazing, we very much enjoyed
our time there and were sad to move on. We met many other boats doing the same
thing and no doubt we will meet some of them again on the way to New Zealand and
beyond. We went back to the main town on Nuku Hiva to go to the Saturday fresh
food market at 05.00 hrs. We got what we wanted, including a 3kg slice of Yellow
Fin tuna. We have been catching Skipjack tuna, but Yellow Fin is the best. The
locals use it raw in many delicious dishes. We are enjoying the fish in raw and
cooked form.
Saturday was also the day for the canoe marathon in
the bay. We were asked to dress the boat up overall, which we duely did.
We are just over half way now on our way to Raroia,
the first of the Tuamoto Islands we intend to visit. There is not much wind, but
we are sailing making slow progress. The sun is out and it is getting pretty
warm. We had a little hitch hiker on board yesterday, unfortunately Duncan found
it dead on the aft deck this morning.
