Our stop at Ross Island was interesting. Ross
Island is a small island off Port Blair. It was the administrative centre for
the Brits up to the 2nd WW. After the was it was abandoned. The ruins of the
very smart brick build houses were overgrown by Fig trees. It is now a Naval
Base and open to the public except for Wednesdays, which was of course the day
that we landed there. The guy was very kind and gave us 20 min to have a quick
look around at no charge.
From there we went back into the anchorage in Port
Blair.
We spent one day re-provisioning with food, water
and diesel and emails in the Andaman Holidays office. The next day we visited
the museum of Anthropology, which told us a bit around the local tribes.
Interesting. Then we went by car further south and had a look further inland. We
stopped at Wandoo and Chiriatapu. We enjoyed the scenery, but the driver was a
bit suicidal. Yesterday and today we did jobs on board with it being the
weekend. Tonight we'll go ashore for a meal and then tomorrow we will check out
and be on our way to Thailand.
