After 12 days at sea we are more than 1500 miles closer
to home.
It has been a mixed bag, with one night of rain and one
night of no wind at all, but mostly excellent sailing, which we very much
appreciated as we had not done any for so long now.
We are now in a beautiful anchorage just off Uligam in
the most northern atoll of the Maldives. We are in turquoise water amongst reefs
with a long white beach not far away. We have been here two days now and have
seen dolphins and turtles swim past.
Assad, our agent, arrived with the officials to check us
in, which went very smoothly. We then went ashore to see the village and to see
what is available in the way of provisions, which is not much.
There are two other yachts here at the moment. We were
all invited for a bbq on the beach with Assad and two others. They looked after
us extremely well and we had a great evening.
Today Assad sorted out diesel and water for us, plus sim
cards, local currency etc. He also invited us for lunch at his house, where we
met his family and enjoyed delicious local food.
We now have our cruising permit (not cheap) and are free
to go anywhere.
We'll stay another day to complete our admin and
enjoy more swimming and snorkeling in these beautiful water. We'll the go and
explore some other islands on the way south to Male.
