We arrived here after a gentle sail and were the
only boat in the bay until just after dark, when another boat arrived. We have
had plenty of dugout canoes visit us with various requests from "Can you
recharge my mobile?"; "Can you copy a DVD?" and "Can you fix my generator?" So
today we spent time in the village, Isaac showed us around and Duncan had a look
at the generator. He went back later with tools and managed to sort out the
problem. People generally do not seem very well off, so we donated noodles,
rice, t-shirts, tins of tuna and nails, as well as exercise books and pens. We
were given a large bunch of green bananas and lovely smiles.
Tomorrow we will go to Ambrym Island; another
island with a live volcano. We can see the red glow at night from here. We are
not sure how close we can get, as the Yam gods are not too keen on visitors this
time of year.
