The bus trip from Phnom Phen to Battambang was uneventful. We stayed in a lovely colonial house which was converted into a small hotel. From there we decided to go by car (4 hours) rather than by boat (10 hours) to Siem Reap. We stayed in a small garden hotel just outside town. Then for the next three/four days we visited temples. We ended up with hundreds of photographes.
The first day we saw Angkor Wat, along with thousands of other tourists. Fortunately it is big so we did manage to get some photos without tourists in the picture. Day two we went to Angkor Thom, a large complex of temples. We went into several including Ta Prohm, which was used in the film "Tomb Raiders". This was partly restored, but mainly left with big trees growing in amongst the ruins.
On day three we took a Tuk Tuk to one group of temples further out of town: The Roluos group. On the last day we took Denise to the airport and then went by car to yet another temple further out called Banteay Srey. This was a much smaller scale temple, but again very busy with Asian tourists and difficult to get a picture without other people in it. It has been an interesting few days, we learned a lot and enjoyed each temple as they were different in their own way.
We did other things too. Denise and I went for a lovely massage on her birthday and yesterday we spent nearly four hours in the museum. We also saw Apsara dance performance. We are back in Phnom Phen, totally templed out.
We fly tomorrow to Hongkong.
