Makassar it is today; well actually we arrived
yesterday. We had a really good sail with 20+ winds from behind for a change and
were moving along nicely.
We made one overnight stop in Teluk Laikung. It
turned out that where we planned to anchor was now a big power station. The bay
was also pretty much covered with seaweed lines (sea weed farming is big here).
But it was too late to go else where so we anchored. We were soon visited
by some local boats, but all they wanted was to say hello on their way out to go
fishing. We went to bed early, only to be woken up by several male voices at
about midnight. So we got up to find out that the police (armed) had come to see
us; five of them. They were very friendly, but did not have much English. With
our little Indonesian we managed to find out (we think) that we were in a
restricted area and they were the police for this area. We think that it had
taken them all this time to find a boat to come and see us. Unfortunately we had
left an empty rum bottle in the cockpit, which they spotted and ask if we had
more. So we gave them a bottle (they also took the empty one). Then after they
had taken all their photos they left.
We were welcomed by Arief and Sempa here in
Makassar, they showed us where to anchor and gave us all the information we
need. Diesel was delivered this morning. We will stay here a few days and
arrange today to do a four day trip to the highlands to the Tana Toraja, which
is a must we were told.
