Unfortunately we had to say goodbye to Ewan and his crew on Questionable Logic. They left a few days ago and should have arrived in Raratonga about now.
Our last day together was spent driving around Tahiti in a 4WD hire car. We had hoped to go across the mountains, but the road was blocked so we could only go so far. The weather was not good, it rained very heavily the higher we got. We had to cross a few fords on the way, which made me very nervous as there was plenty of water going over it. We got back to the coast road safely and continued to drive around the island.
After Logic had gone we did our final shopping and preparations and left Papeete just as it was getting dark. There was no wind so we motored all through the night and arrived in Fare, Huahine just after lunch time. The next day we found ourselves anchored in a big swell (we had outrigger canoes surfing next to us), so after a brief stop on shore to get some bread we moved to the southern end of the island, inside the reef to anchor in Baie Avea. It is a perfect anchorage, hills on one side, the reef on the other side with blue water and about 11 m under the keel. We hired a car and drove around the island. This island is interesting in that there are hundreds of marea (ruins of ancient sites) of which we saw plenty. Today it is raining and windy so an ideal day to do internet things. We skyped both our mothers and Kirsten and Denise, which was great. We will stay here for a few days to catch up with admin, etc and hope that the weather will improve, Duncan is talking about windsurfing..
