We motored most of the way to Belitung, only to get strong winds when it was time to anchor. We have been here a few days now with thunderstorms and a lot of rain (this washed all the salt off the decks). We hired a car and went into town for some food shopping. We also visited an interesting museum. There is lots going on here with performances etc. We had some school kids visit the boats this morning. They did not speak much English so it was hard to communicate.
In Indonesia we have had a new experience; local people taking photographs of us. Sometimes just on the street or the beach, other times from their dug-out canoes. They love to pose with you.
Tonight we have a Gala dinner by invitation of the local government. Tomorrow a tour around the island and on the twelfth we are invited to meet the president of Indonesia. We all have to dress up in batik shirts and skirts. Will let you know in the next installment.
