Our last days in Savu savu were not without excitement. Other than just the usual things of provisioning, paying bills and checking out with customs, we went to the dock to fill up with water and fuel when the dive boat that was next to us exploded. We were just in the process of coming alongside and tying on when there was an enormous blast with flames and debris flying around. A man on the dive boat that was tied on the dock was doing some welding and the petrol fumes in the bottom of the boat exploded. The floor and the windows were ripped out, we immediately cast off again and were fine. A bit shocked, but two guys on the dive boat ended up in hospital. All in all everyone was very lucky. We went back half an hour later to fill up and watch the spectators and the fire engine arrive...
The next morning we met Steve R. with family, for a nice breakfast before we set off on a lovely 3 hr sail to Namena Island. We'll spend two nights here for a rest and then move on to the Yasawa Islands.
After all that excitement we were glad to say goodbye to Savu savu.
