Leaving French Cay we sailed north to Providenciales, known as Provo, to sightsee and Clear Out of Turks & Caicos. We headed for Sapodilla, the main yachting anchorage, and anchored in Sapodilla Bay overlooking a lovely beach fringed with beach umbrellas and guest houses.

Gussy Cove with the Yellow Customs Building, and commercial docks. A short walk from Sapodilla Bay.

Walking around the Harbour Gates area, we were surprised at the homes in this state of disrepair,

and the well maintained homes on the waterfront which seemed all to be Guest Houses

Our first views of Chalk Sound. Once again we are struck at how much Turks & Caicos looks like the Cape West Coast towns, with barren inhospitable soil and shale supported very little natural vegetation except scrub.

Chalk Sound is a Sound, ie sea water, open to the sea through a narrow channel. The sound is large and shallow. 3 miles long x 1 mile wide. Las Brisas offer boat rides around the Chalk for 2 hours for $70 per person......

They have a delightful bar/restaurant and pool area with Wifi, and are most welcoming to Cruisers.

We visited the Tourist office, and decided that apart from beaches and diving there was not much else to do on Provo. So, having checked out and spent some time on the beach, the next day it was time to leave late afternoon with enough time and sunlight to navigate over the Caicos Bank and through the reef.
