What an amazing 2 weeks we had at East Chicago Marina / Indiana Harbor Yacht Club !!

Previously in Chicago, we needed to fill up with diesel, and the price of diesel was $4,50/Gallon at all the local harbors, so I phoned around both north and south, and found that East Chicago Marina, 12 miles to the south, charged $2,15 - less than half, and as we needed to fill up with 400 Gallons, one can easily do the Math and see that we quickly saved $900, just by traveling 12 miles.

At first we had decided to only overnight at East Chicago Marina, and debate where to go next, as we were not enjoying our stay at Monroe Harbor on a Mooring Ball, however we immediately met the most amazing people, and quickly decided to spend the next 2 weeks there.

The Marina rates were excellent, at $40 per night, or $240 per week, including electricity, both 220V and 110V available, water, and laundry facilities. Marina Staff were friendly and professional.

We had tons of people come look at Meshugga, including the local police, marina staff, the Mayor, and hoards of fellow yachties from the Club.

“South African couple, Nicholas and Deidre Mace set sail from Capetown, South Africa on their boat entitled the "SV Meshugga" with intent to reach Ottowa Illinois for their sons wedding. The two were at sea for a total of 18 months and on June 22nd, 2018 they docked at East Chicagos newly renovated Marina. Here is the interaction with The Maces and Mayor Anthony Copeland.”

The video can be viewed on my FaceBook Page or East Chicago TV station ECTV, 05 July 2018. (Sorry don’t know how to link it here).

Granted the surrounding area is not exactly tourist city, but we had chores to do, and prep Meshugga for guests arriving and a week of wedding events.

Huge thanks to Commodore Ray and Rachelle White, Vice-Commodore Tim Walzak, Sherri Dunlap, Shann Hawk, and Cathy and Dave Sellers who went out their way to welcome us to the Club, invite us to join loads of Yachties at ‘The Beach’, take us shopping, haul us off for an excellent evening of beer tasting at the ‘Three Floyds Brewery’ and then dinner.

The Indiana Harbor Club Members, especially the ‘A’ Dock boaters made our 2 weeks one of the most amazing stops we’ve had on The Loop. Thank you !
