Our sail down the Chesapeake was good with a tail wind, overcast, rainy and squally. We crossed over the tunnel at midnight in the pitch dark, carefully watching our Chart Plotter, Radar, AIS, and visually looking outside at the lights, which were quite confusing. It was a relief to cross the narrow cutting and be ‘out to sea’.

Daybreak brought more of good winds, cloudy, squally conditions, but with a northerly blowing it was preferable to pounding into a headwind. We hugged the coast around Hatteras and kept southing.

Along the way, we had an interesting guest, and the young bird stayed with us a good 6 hours, first in the cockpit, and then walking around all our salon windows peering in. I’m sure he wanted to come in, but no ways was I going to clean up all the big bird poop inside.

Arriving at West Palm Beach midday, we entered with wind against tide, to a bumpy entrance.

We found at no room big enough for Meshugga at Peanut Island, being a Sunday and all the local yachts out playing. We headed south of Peanut and found space.
