WOW......

We met up with Cape Town friends Debi and Richard Gordon in Antigua.

Their son, Lee is part of a 4 man rowing team taking part in the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Ocean Challenge, from Canary Islands to Antigua - a distance of more than 3000 miles.

The South African team is rowing to raise money for desks for South African Schools. Check out MAD4WAVES.com

We met the other parents of the South African rowing team.
Debs and Gavin (son Grant Soll)
Karen and Nico (son Cole Barnard)
Di and Paul (son Matt Boynton)

All the young men are ex Bishops and ex Cape Town University (UCT), and have been friends and rowing mates for more than 10 years.

Our home yacht club, Royal Cape Yacht Club and Bishops, of which Nicholas is an ‘Old Boy’ both Sponsor the team, and with Kieran and Connor both being rowers from school days at St Johns, and at Boston University, USA, we felt a kindred spirit of excitement and enthusiasm for the MAD4WAVES team.

We took the parents, girlfriends, friends and relatives out on Meshugga flying the South African Flag, to intercept the MAD4WAVES team.

We found their boat, ‘Jasmine 2’, on AIS, about 10 miles east of Antigua. It was a hugely emotional event for all the families having not seen their sons for at least 39 days.
