Simons Town is in False Bay, south of Cape Town. The journey here was not
easy but reasonably quick. Entering False Bay was challenging as we went through
an acceleration zone with 40+ knots plus rain!! Not pleasant. Then we reefed in
completely and aimed to arrive at Simons Town at first light. It loked lovely
and the berth we had been allocated was waiting for us – thank goodness. We were
all relieved to tie up and relax for a while.
We are in False Bay Yacht Club and will stay here until early January. That
will give us time to fix, repair and renew the essential kit and get ready to
head off into the Atlantic towards Brazil via St. Helena. Patrick, who has been
with us for 6 months, leaves South Africa to return to France. It has been super
having him on board and I will miss him because he has done most of the cooking
on board since he joined.
Once the jobs are done we will venture out into the Western Cape and do
some tourist things. Until then we are happy to be here and are looking forward
to Christmas – our third in a much warmer climate that Scotland!!
First light in False Bay on 8th Dec 2013.
