We think we are now clear of the ITCZ with its difficult and variable conditions after what has really been a very pleasant passage - other boats close to have had much worse. It’s just a shame that we lost our mainsail in just about the only decent squall we encountered (but in hindsight it was clearly an accident waiting to happen, and we would have lost it sooner or later, probably in a more difficult circumstance).
Anyway, we are now making steady progress in very nice NE Trade Winds. We should carry these winds, which helpfully veer slowly round to the E as we go north, all the way to the Caribbean. Yippee!
But yet another miserable grey dawn; it looks rather like the North Sea in November, only warmer. However we are now approaching the northwestern limit of the gigantic cloud bank over the mouth of the Amazon and we anticipate sunnier days ahead.
