Here is Alison tucking into another lobster roll, this time at the Dockside Deli at Frenchboro (the only village on Long Island, Maine). This picture is expecially for you, David.

Frenchboro was not settled by Europeans until the 1820s and was never farmed due to the thin soil, nor clear felled for logs so most of the island is exactly as it was and is now a Preserve. Early journal entries in the small museum show very cordial relations with passing Wabanaki Indians (they had no permanent settlement here) including the use of Indian doctors to treat the settlers' children.
Here is Lunt's Harbour. The Dockside Deli is the building with the white roof on the far side, owned by Lunt & Lunt (it's a small island!).

The island has about 40 year-round residents, lots of summer visitors and millions and millions of biting flies which have just hatched, making the walk in the woods that we undertook really quite unpleasant. They seem particularly to like biting those who have chosen to use insect repellant.
