Except here, perhaps. This is the Gendarmerie
(police station) on the Isle of Pines, located in a beautifully restored
colonial building and staffed by a small number of Gendarmes on secondment from
France:
As usual they have to live with their families in
the adjacent barracks - here actually a series of detached bungalows of decent
hotel standard. And this is their view from the entrance (our boat out of view
in the bay to the left):
