The VS has been sitting on a mooring at Cammeray in Middle Harbour for the
last couple of weeks. Here it is:
As you can see we’re not alone. There are thousands of boats about, and as
usual most of them seem never to move. We are at the top of Cammeray Creek which
ends a couple of hundred metres to the left of this photo at Tunk Park – which
boasts three very good municipal cricket pitches, all in use every
weekend.
We walked around the Harbour from the boat to Manly, about 15km, mostly in
national park bush. Here we are sitting on a convenient rock looking out into
the Pacific through the Harbour entrance with Manly to the left – you can just
make out a famous Sydney ferry en route. This photo was taken by a passer-by who
said we looked so sweet sitting there together that she just had to take our
picture. Definitely a first.
Manly has two coasts, one in the Harbour and one facing the Pacific. Here
is the inside:
You may have noticed the ‘windy sky’ in the previous shot. Sydney is prone
to rather sudden extreme changes of weather. On this day the wind suddenly went
from slight to a full gale. These sea water pools are called rock pools around
here, and there are lots of them. Rather nice.
No picture of the ocean beach this time, but playing on the very pleasant
prom was the local Pipe Band, a much more interesting view:
The mat in the foreground is for Scottish dancing demonstrations. These
people were quite good, and have been invited to the Edinburgh Tattoo in 2015,
but it was really strange to hear the bagpipes playing ‘Scotland the Brave’
followed by ‘Waltzing Matilda’.
