Well, we've arrived safely. Or almost. Seems that we should have guessed that we needed to tell the US Customs that we were coming in advance. So we've had a telling off by phone, and are currently moored to a fuel pontoon at Newport Marina awaiting the arrival of Customs & Immigration who are making a special trip to see us (despite this being a designated Port of Entry to the US. We were ordered to go to the fuel pontoon by Customs - the marina then tried to charge us $50 for the privilege (moaning loudly about Customs) so we have bought fuel and they've waived the charge! We're not allowed off the fuel dock on pain of death or worse, not even to go to the toilet. Not staying in the marina because despite being low season until next week it's $3.50 per foot per night (about £120), so it's anchoring for us, free.
Newport and its environs are beautiful. Pictures following tomorrow.
