This is a picture taken on the barren and very
rugged west coast of Gran Canaria. In the foreground are two endemic Canary
Palms (they have dates but those from the 'true' date palm, which also grows
here, are better). In the background at much higher level (the island's highest
peaks are just under 2000m) can be seen a forest of the Canary Pine
(another endemic) which grows in near-constant cloud caused by the Trade Winds
hitting the higher ground. there are very interesting (to some people) lizards
here, but I have not seen one yet.
