Vulcan Spirit participated in the 2010 ARC - the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers - from the Canary
Islands to St Lucia in the Caribbean. This meant that as we passed by St Lucia heading for Antigua we crossed our outbound track of 2010, and thus completed our circumnavigation of the globe.
Here we are celebrating the fact with our Dutch friends Hannah and Nils, fellow new circumnavigators on their catamaran Pelagie, on VS at St Maarten shortly afterwards. The inflatable globe in the background has been an invaluable planning aid since it was purchased in Hobart, Tasmania. Also just visible tucked into the rail above it is a toy rat given to us by our son Tom as a mascot; it is now that very rare thing, a circumnavigated toy rat.

This is how some people travel, seen at anchor outside the lagoon at St Maarten. This thing is gigantic, as you can see from the observation gangway extended over the anchor chain. It is a private yacht.

Most of St Maarten/Martin is horrible. Overdeveloped, scruffy and really not very pleasant. But there is a preserved section of coastline in the north, on the French side; there is nothing preserved on the Dutch side at all. Here it is, seen from the coastal path. Because you have to walk there is nobody here.
