Having put the engine on the wind returned more or less on schedule this morning so we've had a good day's sail towards the southwest at last. We tried out our downwind sails which involves lots of messing about on the foredeck with lots of ropes and poles, but it wasn't a great success because the wind wasn't pointing in exactly the right direction (of course) and there wasn't quite enough of it either. So we had a go with the cruising chute, but that proved difficult to manage in the swell and we contrived to put a small tear in it while untangling it from the rigging. Alison has skilfully mended it and tomorrow the winds might be just right. The forecast for the next couple of days (only) looks favourable so we should start making better progress towards St Lucia tomorrow. we live in hope, with only 1900 nm to go.
