Yep, Australia really does have a National Toilet Map. You can see it for yourself at https://toiletmap.gov.au where you will find lots of details about over 16 000 public toilets throughout Australia as a part of the National Continence Plan and associated significant bureaucracy. I can’t make my mind up as to whether this is a really good idea or an example of government gone mad. Given the quite extraordinary way in which politics is conducted here I’d be prepared to believe the latter but overall I’m inclined to the good idea side.

In any event our experience of Australian toilets, much visited by the female half of the crew, is that they are generally a bit better than those in the UK but nowhere near as good as those in NZ which are in a class on their own (and I’ve belatedly discovered that there is an NZ national toilet map too).

A good item for debate in the UK’s forthcoming general election I reckon.
